Jane Barnes


Jane Barnes is the latest recruit to Richard Newton Consultancy (RNC) joining us in 2021.

Her experience spans the Arts, Culture, Heritage, Creative Industries, and Education sectors.

Jane worked as a Relationship Manager -Visual Arts and Combined Arts for Arts Council England (North), with responsibility for a multi-million-pound portfolio of arts organisations.

In the education sector, Jane worked at Director level in Further Education and leading on several Change Management programmes including Curriculum Design, Mergers and Restructure.

She held a Tate Arts Educational Fellowship at Tate Liverpool in conjunction with Cheshire Education Authority, after which she was appointed an educational curator, developing MAP. Her connection with the Tate has continued with a number of freelance commissions such as an artist for Tate Circuit, and lead artist developing Art Box for Tate Liverpool.

Her consultancy work includes projects for The Old Town Hall/ Red House in Merthyr Tydfil where Jane led on Business Planning, Fundraising, Public Consultation, Historical Research, and designing the Activity Plan.  Other freelance assignments include researching and creating H4Arts installation Exhibition in a “Box – Silences of WW1”, which toured South Wales and was Heritage Lottery Funded. This project included developing Audience Engagement Strategies and Educational Content. Jane also was commissioned as an artist on Drawn Together for Voluntary Arts Wales, the largest drawing project on Wales, exhibited at National Museum Wales.

Jane is a practising and exhibiting artist. She loves live music and is looking forward to the music scene post-Lockdown. Jane is a BWY qualified yoga teacher, teaching classes, and training staff from North Wales Police, Conwy Council, and Welsh Government in well-being and resilience. Jane has written a historical fiction novel for which she is presently seeking an agent and has co-authored a screenplay currently with an agent.
